The Gospel of Mark

The Gospel of Mark is one of the three Synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke; synoptic referring to the fact that these three gospels detail the events of the Life of Jesus from the same point of view). It is attributed to Mark, who is most likely the John Mark we meet in Acts 12 and 13, who accompanies Paul and Barnabas on their missionary journey but leaves them to return to Jerusalem after they visit Cyprus. The earliest traditions around this gospel also tell us that when Mark wrote the gospel he was acting as the 'secretary' for the Apostle Peter and that the Gospel that Mark wrote was that which the Apostle Peter dictated.

Throughout 2008 we will be spending time on Sunday afternoons reading through the Gospel of Mark and discussing what we have read using a series of questions as discussion starters. Mark's gospel details the events from the work of John the Baptist and the Baptism of Jesus right through to the resurrection of Jesus. Spending time reading and discussing the Gospel of Mark will enable us to gain an overview of the whole of the life of Jesus and allow us to discuss many of the most significant events in the life of Jesus and to consider how those events effect us in 2008.

The question sheets are available at the Dandenong Bible Education Centre Website and can be found by going here. The dates for our discussions up until the end of June 2008 can be seen below or downloaded as a PDF by clicking here.
